How To Use the NTSA Vehicles Inspection Portal

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has introduced a new vehicle inspection portal to be used by vehicle owners subject to the Traffic Amendment Bill 2021 meant to streamline traffic laws.

Here is the procedure to follow to use the portal service

1. Log in to the NTSA online page
2. A dialogue box will pop up on “forgot password,” and “get a new password”
3. Log in to access new registration, annual, and change of inspection services.
4. A notification will be sent to the number provided on Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS)
5. Log in to the TIMS account to download the inspection report.

The new service dictates that owners of motorcycles and three-wheelers will pay 500 shillings inspection fees every two years while those who own vehicles below 3000cc will be charged 2,000 shillings each.

Meanwhile, vehicles above 3000cc will pay 2,500 shillings. Trailers under 5 tons will part with 2,000 shillings and trailers above 5 tons 2,500 shillings. Inspection of heavy commercial vehicles less than 5 tons will cost 3,000 shillings.

For heavy commercial vehicles above 5 tons owners will pay 3,500 shillings while an inspection report for accident vehicles will go for 1,500 shillings.

According to the new regulation, all private vehicles imported to the country shall be exempt from the requirement of inspection for two years from the date of registration in Kenya if they have been inspected prior to importation by the Kenya Bureau of Standards or their agents.

Moreover, those that undergo any changes in the length, height, width, maximum payload, vehicle color, engine swap, and other major structural or mechanical changes shall also be subject to a modification inspection.
