Mike Kuria Appointed As The CUE Boss

Education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha has appointed the former Daystar University director Mike Kuria to serve as the chief executive officer of the Commission for University education (CUE). Kuria will replace Mwenda Ntarangwi, whose term will end on September 4, and is expected to serve the commission for a five-year term subject to renewal.

“The Commission for University Education is pleased to welcome Prof. Kuria as the new CEO to continue with its important mandate of regulating and overseeing university education,” CUE said.

In his new role, he will regulate, and oversee university education in the country and contribute to university education initiatives.

Out of the 49 applicants who had applied for the recruitment exercise, only 15 individuals were shortlisted for the final interview.

“Prof Kuria is a multiskilled and versatile leader and academic with extensive experience and expertise in quality assurance in higher education in Kenya and beyond,” the commission said.

Mike Kuria worked as an educationist and associate professor at Daystar University. He holds a Ph.D. degree in literature from the University of Leeds in the UK. He also holds a Bachelor of Education degree (English and Literature) and a Master of Philosophy degree in literature both from Moi University.

He was the first Secretary-General of the East African Quality Assurance Network in 2012 and was recruited as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA) In 2016.
