40 Digital Lenders To Be Audited After Breaching Data Laws

The Office of the Data Protection Commission (ODPS) will audit at least 40 digital lenders after they breached data protection laws against their customers.

This audit comes at a time the government through the Central Bank of Kenya is trying to clean the digital lending industry in an effort to “get rid of rogue operators.”

All digital lenders in Kenya are now regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya and over 60 percent of them are still being vetted before being issued new licenses.

Under the new regulations, they are not allowed to call, send messages or threaten their customers. Kenyans have been urged to report any lender who will threaten them so that their licenses can be revoked.
