Magoha Announces Official Dates When KCSE And KCPE Exams Will Kick Off

The outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced that the National Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE examination will kick off on November 28.

Speaking on Monday, on 10^th October at Kerugoya Catholic Church grounds in Kirinyaga during the post-World Teachers Day celebrations, Professor George Magoha assured the candidates that exams will be done on time.

He as well added that marking will be completed by December and exams will be released on January 23 next year. Magoha seemed to be in agreement with President Willian Ruto’s decision to form a committee that is expected to collect people’s views on the competency Based Curriculum.

He said that the marking will be completed in December and examination results be released by January 23 next year. Prof. Magoha asked teachers who will be marking examinations to cooperate, promising to have them paid promptly after doing their work well.

Prof Magoha spoke in favor of the Competency-Based Curriculum and thanked President William Ruto for setting up a task force to review the education system.

He observed that the government has invested heavily in CBC, adding that 10,000 CBC classrooms had been constructed nationally but the contractors were yet to be paid.

Magoha said the money for the construction had been factored into the budget urging the government to release the funds so that the contractors could be paid.

Speaking at the same event, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu urged the government to give teachers a 60 percent salary increase. He lamented that teachers were demoralized for receiving peanuts from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

“To motivate teachers, the TSC should consider increasing their pay,” he said. Further, Mr. Oyuu, who was accompanied by Kirinyaga branch KNUT Secretary Patrick Kanaiyu, observed that schools were understaffed and called for the employment of 58,000 more teachers to make teaching easier.

Also present at the function was Kirinyaga Senator Mr. Kamau Murango, Woman Representative Njeri Maina, and Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari who vowed to continue supporting calls to improve the welfare of the teachers
