KEY POINTS

DStv and GOtv have pulled the magic by bringing the World Cup matches right into people’s living rooms and entertainment joints in HD. Both entertainment giants will be showing live matches until the end of the World Cup.

Two goals by Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi’s penalty gave Argentina a 3-0 victory over Croatia in the first World Cup semi-final on Tuesday at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. The win set up a meeting with either France or Morocco in Sunday’s title match.

Messi fired a penalty after Man City striker Alvarez earned a debatable penalty following a collision with Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic,  giving the 35-year-old a second opportunity to play in the World Cup final. The strike also crowns Messi the top scorer at the World Cup finals with 11 goals surpassing Gabriel Batistuta.  Messi also hit the record for most appearances at the World cup by playing for the 25th time just like Germany’s Lothar Matthaus.

Argentina last played in the World Cup finals in 2014 and was beaten by Germany in Brazil. The country has however managed its records of not losing in the World Cup semi-finals and will be playing in the finals for the sixth time.

The Tuesday match was one of the darkest for Croatia which had beaten Japan and Brazil on penalties in its bid to reach a second straight World Cup final.

This Wednesday, France will be meeting Morocco at AL Bayt Stadium from 10.00 pm, after winning their heavyweight clash in the final eight with England last Saturday. All eyes are on Morocco which is fighting to get through the finals on behalf of Africa and the Arab nations.

There are doubts that two of France’s key players may not play in the world cup match against Morocco due to illness. Upamecan and Rabiot were reported to have missed a team training session on Tuesday due to illness. The world is eager to witness the serious peril of France’s Kylian Mbappe who is the tournament’s top scorer with five goals and, playing on the left of the attack for France.
