Safaricom Ethiopia Officially Welcomes New CEO

Safaricom Ethiopia has officially welcomed their new CEO Wim Vanhelleputte who took over the helm of the company effective September 1, 2023.

Wim replaced Anwar Soussa who resigned after less than two years at the East Africa leading telecommunications company.

He joined Safaricom Ethiopia from MTN Group, where he was the Chief Operations executive markets since August 2022 and was responsible for the performance and governance of four operating companies in West and Central Africa.

Immediately before he served as the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, a role he held from 2016.

Between 2009 to 2015, Wim was the CEO of MTN Cote d’Ivoire. He joined Airtel Africa briefly between 2015 and 2016, first as regional director-Francophone Africa, then as a luster CEO for Airtel DRC and Congo.

“Since he officially joined Safaricom Ethiopia on September 1, 2023, Wim has been engaging with government stakeholders, shareholders, customers and getting to know the team… As we embark on the new 2016 Ethiopian Year, under his leadership, we will further strengthen our contributions to the digital transformation agenda of the country,…” said Safaricom Ethiopia in a statement.
