Following reports that NTSA has refused to renew the license for taxi-ailing company, Bolt, the company has come out to dispute the news doing rounds in a section of the media.

Here is their full statement:

Bolt has been operating as a fully compliant operator as per the National Transport and Safety Authority (Transport Network Companies, Owners, Drivers, and Passengers) Regulations 2022 and the stipulated licensing requirements by the industry regulator, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Bolt was issued with a Transport Network Company license, effective 28th October 2022, and has been fully compliant with the stipulated regulation to cap its commission rate at 18% for drivers using our application.

Bolt currently has a license in the market and continues to work with the regulator in the stipulated license renewal process going forward.

Bolt charges a fixed percentage booking fee that is paid by the passenger. The booking fee assists with covering support and enhanced technological features that ensure an even more efficient service on our platform.

Bolt would like to reiterate that the global nature of our business dictates that we work in collaboration with all the relevant government institutions to adhere to local and international standards and regulations.

We have continuously worked in partnership with local authorities and other key stakeholders to ensure that the ride-hailing, micro-mobility, and food delivery industry grows to its full potential, sustainably.

At Bolt, the interests of our driver community remain at the heart of our business. Bolt recently launched its Driver Engagement Center to enhance its driver relations and address drivers’ expectations in terms of handling their concerns. The driver engagement center is located on the 6th floor, of Delta Chambers in the Westlands area and is accessed on an appointment basis to ensure seamless and effective management of driver issues.

We continue to provide additional support through our Driver App as well as via our online platforms. Over and above the existing features on our Driver App, we continue to meet with our driver community and driver groups from time to time. We are also constantly working on the holistic driver experience, and to provide the support they need to be successful in their businesses.

Ultimately, Bolt is cognizant of the fact that drivers are our biggest partners and as such, we continue to focus on their take-home earnings, bringing in more demand, and shortening the inconveniences or the costs they incur to offer services on our platform.
