Museveni Strongly Endorses Raila For The AU Job

As the push to have Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga take over the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission continues, a new development has emerged with Presidents Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, William Ruto, and Raila Odinga holding talks for the first time in ages.

According to statements by the two Kenyan leaders; President Willian Ruto and Raila Odinga, President Museveni invited them to Uganda in a joint meeting to discuss the deepening of regional integration within the East African Community.

The meeting comes even as the East African Community (EAC) navigates recent tensions economically between Kenya Kenya Uganda, and Tanzania, and between Rwanda and Burundi, as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo with Raila now emerging as a proactive leader, key in fostering diplomatic bridges and mending relationships between member states.

Raila Odinga said that during the meeting, the three leaders discussed the his candidacy for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. “I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President William Ruto for supporting it.”

Confirming the same, President William Ruto said he also discussed the issue of Raila Odinga’s candidacy at the AU, calling for the support from President Yoweri Museveni.

President Ruto also announced that the issues affecting the flow of petroleum products between Kenya and Uganda are being resolved. “We have agreed on a way forward of sourcing and scheduling imports for the region in a manner that will ensure we achieve the most competitive pricing and maximum logistical efficiency.”
