KNEC Gives Deadline For KPSEA Registration

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has directed all primary school head teachers to complete the registration of Grade 6 learners by 28^th February for the upcoming Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

KNEC said that for a learner to be registered for KPSEA, they must first be registered in the Grade 6 portal to obtain an assessment number.

While in Grade 3, learners were issued with an assessment number but KNEC is conducting fresh registration to ensure the accuracy of candidates’ bio data. The assessment number which is a unique identifier will then be used to complete KPSEA registration.

The registration for the learners commenced on 27^th January 2025. Headteachers were asked to ensure the candidate’s bio-data were affected during registration.

KNEC warned schools against registering ghost candidates that such action will lead to the deregistration of the school as a KNEC assessment center.

“Candidates presented for the assessment must be eligible learners in the respective institutions presenting them. Registration of ghost candidates constitutes an assessment malpractice which attracts sanctions, including deregistration of the school as a KNEC assessment center,” said KNEC CEO David Njengere in a circular addressed to all headteachers.

According to KNEC, Schools are required to download a KPSEA nominal roll upon completion of the registration exercise. The Grade 6 learners will start their KPSEA from 26^th October to 30^th October 2025.

Learners did five subjects, which include, Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science and Social Studies, and Creative Arts. The assessment lacked creative writing i.e., English Composition and Kiswahili Insha which used to be done by former KCPE candidates.

KNEC has also opened the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) portal for registration of Grade 3 learners.

Detail’s school heads need to correct according to KNEC

1. Gender
2. Year of Birth
3. Citizenship
4. Religious education registered for (IRE, CRE)
5. Categories of special needs and disabilities where applicable
6. Correct spelling and order of learner’s names as documented in the birth certificate
