Wafula Chebukati Is Dead

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati is dead. Chebukati, who presided over conflicting election elections in Kenya, that were marred with massive rigging, is said to have died in a city hospital where he had been confined in an Intensive Care Unit.

Close family sources said the former IEBC boss had been undergoing treatment at home and was taken to the Hospital after the situation got dire. Initially, he was receiving treatment from his home through a family doctor. The news of his death is still scanty.

Chebukati served as IEBC chair for a full term of six years and retired in January 2023. He presided over the 2017 and 2022 General Elections. More to follow.
