Students seeking placement into universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) have more time to apply for their preferred courses according to KUCCPS.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially extended the application deadline from the initial closing date of April 21, 2025, to a new deadline of April 30, 2025.

This comes as a relief to thousands of students who have yet to finalize their applications, as the extension provides them with additional days to carefully select and apply for courses suited to their career goals.

KUCCPS announced the new application deadline through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. “@KUCCPS Official opened applications for Degree, TVET, and TTC programs on 28/3/2025. The application will close on April 30, 2025.”

In a move aimed at ensuring a smooth application process, KUCCPS has deployed officers to various locations across the country to offer support and guidance to applicants.

Students who may experience challenges during the application process can now access in-person help at:

  1. 63 universities and colleges
  2. KUCCPS Headquarters
  3. All 58 Huduma Centres countrywide

This initiative is intended to provide applicants with technical support, guidance on course selection, and answers to queries about the placement process.

KUCCPS has outlined eligibility criteria for different levels of study in Universities, TVETs, and TTCs based on KCSE results for different years.

  1. Degree Programs

Form Four leavers who sat for the 2024 KCSE examination and attained a mean grade of C+ and above qualify to apply for university degree programs.

Additionally, those who were previously placed in diploma programs but met the minimum university entry grade can now apply for degree courses if they wish to upgrade.

  1. TVET Programs

Form Four leavers who sat their KCSE between 2000 and 2024 and attained mean grades ranging from C to E are eligible to apply for courses offered in TVET institutions.

These include: Level 6: Diploma Programs, Level 5: Craft Certificate Programs, Level 4: Artisan Certificate Programs and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)

Those who completed Form Four between 2000 and 2024 can also apply for Diploma in Teacher Education programs.

KUCCPS uses a system based on cluster points to place students into various courses and institutions. Here’s a breakdown of key terms that applicants need to understand:

A subject cluster refers to a specific combination of four KCSE subjects that are essential for eligibility in a particular degree program. For instance, students applying for Health Sciences courses such as Medicine or Nursing must have studied:

  1. Biology
  2. Chemistry
  3. Physics or Mathematics
  4. English or Kiswahili
