The Water Loan From NCBA And What It Means For Individuals And Businesses Seeking To Improve Water Access And Sanitation

At the 2025 Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Conference, held at Sarova Whitesands in Mombasa, NCBA Bank unveiled its latest initiative to address Kenya’s water crisis: the NCBA Water Loan.
This financing product, developed in partnership with Water.org, aims to provide affordable loans to individuals and businesses seeking to improve water access and sanitation facilities.
The conference, themed “Sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Management Solutions,” brought together key stakeholders, including Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Mugaa and Nation Media Group CEO Geoffrey Odundo.
NCBA’s sponsorship of the event underscores its commitment to sustainable development and aligns with its Ksh 30 billion pledge towards sustainability financing.

Robert Kiboti, Director of Commercial and SME Banking at NCBA, emphasized the bank’s dedication to facilitating access to funding for the water sector: “At NCBA, we prioritize seamless access to funding for players in the Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation ecosystem in line with our Ksh 30 billion commitment to sustainability financing,” Kiboti stated. “Our nationwide branch network is supported by trained relationship managers working alongside consultants and engineers through Water.org to deliver practical water solutions that advance SDG 6—Clean Water and Sanitation for All.”
The NCBA Water Loan offers rapid credit approvals, with conditional approval provided within 15 seconds and a formal offer letter issued within 48 hours. This swift process is designed to expedite the implementation of water projects across the country. Additionally, NCBA provides leasing options through its Asset Finance division for necessary equipment, ensuring that clients have access to the tools required for their projects.
Water.org’s collaboration with NCBA brings technical expertise to the initiative, enhancing the effectiveness of the Water Loan program. Water.org has a history of successful partnerships in Kenya, having previously worked with financial institutions to provide water and sanitation loans with a high repayment rate of 98%. These loans have empowered communities by enabling access to safe water and sanitation, thereby improving health outcomes and economic opportunities.
The introduction of the NCBA Water Loan comes at a critical time, as Kenya continues to face challenges in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6.
According to recent data, approximately 15 million Kenyans lack access to safe water, and 37 million lack access to a safe toilet. The Water Loan aims to bridge this gap by providing financial solutions that support the development of water infrastructure and services.
NCBA’s initiative complements other efforts in the sector, such as the MajiKonnect program by the National Bank of Kenya, which offers financing for water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. These programs collectively contribute to the national agenda of ensuring universal access to clean water and sanitation.
For SMEs and individuals interested in the NCBA Water Loan, the bank offers professional advice and education through its Customer Value Propositions. Clients are encouraged to visit any NCBA branch to learn more about how the bank supports sustainable water solutions.
As Kenya strives to overcome its water and sanitation challenges, initiatives like the NCBA Water Loan represent a significant step towards achieving a more sustainable and equitable future.
