KNEC Announces Training For 2025 KJSEA Examiners, Fees, Eligibility, Requirements And How To Apply

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially rolled out plans to train examiners who will be engaged in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) scheduled for October.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, July 1, KNEC invited qualified teachers to apply for the training programme, which will be conducted between July and August 2025. The training exercise is a critical component of KNEC’s preparation for the upcoming national assessments targeting Grade 9 learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
According to the announcement, applicants who are successfully shortlisted for the training will be required to pay a training fee of Ksh10,500, which will cater for the training materials and logistics.
KNEC has outlined stringent eligibility requirements for individuals interested in participating in the KJSEA examiner training. These conditions are designed to ensure that only competent and professionally qualified individuals are entrusted with the sensitive task of assessing learners.
To be considered for the examiner training, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
- Be employed by the TSC and registered by the Public Service Commission (PSC)
- Hold a Diploma in Education or a higher qualification from a recognized institution
- Have at least three years of teaching experience
- Be 50 years of age or below
- Must not be under any disciplinary action or interdiction by TSC at the time of application
- Be recommended by the Head of Institution (school principal or headteacher).
KNEC emphasized that failure to meet any of the above requirements would automatically disqualify a candidate from the training opportunity.
The training will be conducted in two phases—a virtual component followed by a residential face-to-face session. KNEC stated that the first part of the training will take place online to allow participants to cover theoretical content and familiarize themselves with digital assessment tools and marking schemes.
After completion of the online module, qualified participants will attend an in-person residential training session. KNEC mentioned that the venue for the physical session will be communicated at a later date to successful applicants.
The face-to-face training will be conducted under a strictly residential arrangement, meaning that participants will be required to remain at the designated training site for the entire duration of the exercise.
“The venue for the residential training will be communicated to the qualified trainees later, where the exercise will be strictly residential,” the Council stated in its communication.
Upon completion of the training, those who qualify will be added to KNEC’s pool of contracted professionals. These examiners will then be engaged to mark KJSEA scripts based on KNEC’s recruitment criteria, which take into account the number of scripts, subject specialization, and regional deployment needs.
“Qualified examiners will be engaged by KNEC to mark KJSEA using the criteria for recruitment of examiners based on the personnel needs for each paper,” the Council clarified.
How To Apply
Teachers interested in applying for the training are required to submit their applications through the KNEC examiner portal available at: https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke.
Applicants who already have Contracted Professionals (CP2) accounts should log in using their existing username and password. For those who may have forgotten their login credentials, KNEC has provided a password reset feature. Users are advised to click on the “Reset Password” option and enter their mobile number in the format 2547XXXXXXXX to receive a new password via SMS.
For individuals who do not already have a CP2 account, KNEC has provided a simple account creation process. Prospective examiners must click on ‘Create Account’ and follow the provided instructions to generate login credentials. After successful registration and login, applicants must complete their profile information and save the details on the portal.
The planned examiner training underscores KNEC’s commitment to delivering credible and transparent national assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum framework. The KJSEA assessment is one of the most significant evaluation tools in the new education system and is key to ensuring learners are assessed in line with their competencies rather than rote memorization.
The Council Is therefore urging eligible and qualified teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the growth and transformation of Kenya’s education sector.
