Mantrac Kenya Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rotary Club of Karen and St. Mary’s Karen Primary and Junior School to complete four unfinished Grade 9 classrooms at the school in Karen.

The partnership, officially launched in a signing ceremony at the school grounds, is memorable as Mantrac marks 100 years of Caterpillar’s legacy globally and in Kenya — a century built not only on equipment, but also on empowering people and communities.

The MOU was officially signed by Mr Mohamed Ibrahim, Managing Director of Mantrac Kenya; Ms Linet Ayuko, President of the Rotary Club of Karen; and Mr Louis Okodoi, Chairman of the Board of Governors at St. Mary’s Karen Primary & Junior School.

This initiative will fund the completion of four essential classrooms, including flooring, doors and windows, paintwork, and electrical fittings — improving learning conditions for both teachers and students in a rapidly growing school community.

“As we celebrate 100 years of Caterpillar’s service across the world, we are reminded that our true legacy is not just in the infrastructure we help build — but in the lives we touch and the futures we help shape,” said Mohamed Ibrahim, Managing Director of Mantrac Kenya.

“We have proudly operated in Kenya for decades, and we know that meaningful progress comes not only through equipment, but through people. Education is the most powerful foundation we can help lay for the country’s next century. By supporting St. Mary’s, we’re investing in tomorrow’s engineers, teachers, innovators, and leaders. This is how we build Kenya, not just with equipment, but with purpose,” The managing director added.

The project reflects a growing emphasis on corporate social responsibility (CSR) that goes beyond charity, aligning with Mantrac’s group-wide commitment to sustainable development, skills building, and inclusive growth across Africa.

Partnering in the effort is the Rotary Club of Karen, part of Rotary International’s global network, which is itself celebrating 100 years of Rotary service in Africa. Rotary will lead community engagement, project coordination, and storytelling around the initiative.

“Rotary exists to serve, and this collaboration is a clear example of service that lasts,” said Linet Ayuko, President of the Rotary Club of Karen.

“This is not just a construction project; it is a contribution to a brighter future. By bringing partners together under a shared vision, we are uniting for good. As Rotary also marks its centenary in Africa, we are proud to stand with Mantrac in proving that meaningful impact is possible when people come together with purpose.”

St. Mary’s Primary School, located in Karen, Kibera, serves a growing population of learners under the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). However, the school faces major infrastructural constraints, with overcrowded classes and inadequate learning spaces.

The initiative will be executed over the coming months, with Mantrac funding and managing the construction works through contracted professionals, while Rotary coordinates monitoring, storytelling, and community liaison. All work will be done in coordination with the school administration and the Ministry of Education.

As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, Mantrac is rolling out a series of community-focused initiatives across its markets, reaffirming its role not just as a leading supplier of Caterpillar equipment, but as a long-term partner in national development.
