Schneider Electric Foundation Moves To Power Green TVETs In Kenya

As the world commemorates International World Youth Day globally,  Schneider Electric, the global leader in energy management and automation, has strengthened its commitment to empowering young people with skills and tools to prepare them for the growing green jobs market.

Through its foundation, the company has partnered with Kenya’s Ministry of Education to inaugurate six newly equipped TVET institutions across the country. These include Kabete National Polytechnic, Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology, Kisumu National Polytechnic, Nyandarua National Polytechnic, Nyeri National Polytechnic, and Eldoret National Polytechnic. The institutions are now equipped with Schneider Electric’s latest technologies, including the Hybrid Solar Home System and the EVlink Pro Electric Vehicle Charging System.

This initiative supports Schneider Electric Foundation’s global ambition to train 1 million people and 10,000 trainers in East Africa alone, having empowered 25,000 students by 2025 with practical skills in the energy field.

Speaking at the launch event, Ifeanyi Odoh, Country President of Schneider Electric East Africa, emphasized,” Schneider Electric is proud to celebrate the inauguration of six Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in one go. This time, we are working with public TVET institutions, in partnership with the State Department, to empower an additional 14,000 students with hands-on training in sustainable energy solutions.

These institutions now feature two innovative systems: the Hybrid Solar Home System, offering practical experience in solar energy integration, hybrid inverters, smart panels, and energy storage, and the EVlink Pro Electric Vehicle Charging System, preparing students for the future of electric mobility and sustainable transportation.

“Energy is a basic human right, and access to education is its cornerstone,” He Added. “By equipping these institutions with advanced tools and training, we are not just preparing students for jobs but empowering them to shape a sustainable, innovative energy future for the region.”

Representing the Ministry of Education, Joseph Njau, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, announced that the initiative forms a key part of a nationwide rollout targeted at the greening of all TVET institutions. “We are excited about this program by Schneider Electric as it aims to equip learners with relevant skills for tomorrow, i.e., the solar and electric mobility systems, preparing them for global green job opportunities. Our goal is to ensure our graduates are the first to be skilled for green jobs, meeting the demands of both local and international markets,” Njau emphasized.

In the second phase of the project, the students’ laboratories will be equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) technology, seamlessly integrated into Schneider Electric’s energy management and automation solutions. This technology overlays digital content such as images, data, and instructions onto the physical environment using devices like smartphones, tablets, AR glasses, or headsets. It enables students to interact with real-world systems while accessing live data and visual guidance, enhancing both learning and practical skills development.
