TSC Announces 24,000 Vacancies, Deadline, Salaries And How To Apply

BY Getrude Mathayo · August 27, 2025 01:08 pm

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled a fresh wave of recruitment opportunities by announcing 24,000 internship positions for junior school teachers across the country.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, August 26, comes as part of TSC’s broader strategy to strengthen the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) roll-out while providing employment opportunities for trained but jobless teachers.

According to the public notice, applications must be submitted exclusively through the TSC online portal. Interested candidates have until Monday, September 9, 2025, to submit their details.

TSC emphasized that manual applications will not be accepted under any circumstances, stressing that the digital system was put in place to promote transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process.

Eligibility Criteria

The internship programme is open to qualified, registered, and unemployed teachers, with the commission specifically targeting those eager to gain practical classroom experience.

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Be Kenyan citizens
  2. Hold at least a Diploma in Education
  3. Have attained a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE
  4. Have scored at least a C+ in two teaching subjects
  5. Be duly registered with the TSC

In addition, applicants must present original academic and professional certificates during the recruitment process and must also secure a personal accident insurance cover, which will protect them against personal risks during the internship period.

Successful applicants will be deployed to junior secondary schools spread across the country, where they will serve for a period of one year. Each intern will receive a stipend of KSh 20,000 per month, subject to statutory deductions where applicable.

TSC clarified that the programme is not permanent employment but a transitional opportunity aimed at equipping teachers with critical skills and experience. Through mentorship, coaching, and classroom exposure, interns will sharpen their teaching competencies and prepare for future opportunities within the education sector.

“The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year programme meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service. The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced,” the commission explained in its notice.

Required Documents

Applicants will be required to upload or present copies of the following documents during the application and verification process:

  1. Teacher Registration Certificate
  2. National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Card (if applicable)
  3. National Identity Card (ID) or Passport
  4. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate
  5. Two recent coloured passport-size photographs
  6. Original academic and professional certificates

The commission has made it clear that successful candidates will be posted within the sub-counties where they were interviewed, or in other parts of the county if vacancies exist.

Teachers will be expected to teach across various learning areas under the Junior School curriculum, ensuring adequate staffing to meet the demands of the CBC. TSC warned that applicants should not submit more than one application, as doing so would result in automatic disqualification.

In light of rising cases of recruitment-related fraud, the commission issued a strong warning to applicants to remain vigilant. TSC stressed that the entire application process is free of charge, and any person or entity demanding money for placement is engaging in criminal activity.

Applicants or members of the public who encounter fraudulent agents have been urged to immediately report such cases to the nearest TSC office or to the commission’s headquarters.

This recruitment drive is expected to come as a huge relief to thousands of unemployed teachers, many of whom have been awaiting opportunities to join the teaching service.

With the rollout of CBC creating increased staffing needs, the internship programme is seen as a stepping stone for graduates struggling to secure permanent jobs.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, noting that the internships will not only ease the teacher shortage in junior schools but also provide young educators with an entry point into the profession.

As the September 9 deadline approaches, TSC has urged interested candidates to prepare the necessary documentation and submit their applications in good time to avoid last-minute challenges.
