The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) today announced the details of its Annual Convention 2025, a landmark event for professionals in the built environment focused on addressing Kenya’s pressing urban development challenges.

The announcement was made during a press conference where Crown Paints Kenya PLC confirmed its commitment of KSh 2,000,000 as a key sponsor, reinforcing a collaborative industry approach to sustainable urbanism.

The convention, scheduled to take place from October 1st to 4th at Ciala Resort in Kisumu, will convene architects, urban planners, engineers, quantity surveyors, and policymakers to deliberate on the theme, “From Plans to Reality: Delivering Effective Urban Systems.”

Set against a backdrop of rapid urbanization and increasing climate pressures, the convention aims to move beyond theoretical discussions to forge actionable strategies for creating resilient, inclusive, and innovative cities. The discourse will be structured around four critical sub-themes:

From Plans to Reality: Examining the data, policy, and financial frameworks required to execute impactful urban development projects.

Designing Space for Life: Focusing on human-centered design to create safe, inclusive, and high-quality homes, workplaces, and public spaces.

Building Climate-Resilient Cities: Advancing sustainable transformation through green infrastructure, disaster resilience, and climate adaptation.

Driving Urban Innovation: Fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to pioneer next-generation urban solutions tailored for the Kenyan context.

“Kenya is at a pivotal moment in its urban journey. Our cities are engines of economic growth, but they face immense challenges related to infrastructure, housing, and environmental sustainability. This convention is a call to action for the entire built environment sector to collaboratively forge solutions that translate ambitious plans into a tangible, high-quality reality for all citizens. We are delighted to have Crown Paints join us in this crucial endeavor, a partnership that signifies a shared commitment to excellence and sustainability,” said Arch. George A. Ndege, President, AAK

Crown Paints has a long history of collaboration with the Architectural Association of Kenya, dating back over two decades. From sponsoring educational forums and design awards to partnering on sustainability-focused training sessions, Crown Paints has been a consistent ally in promoting professional growth and environmental responsibility within the built environment sector. This enduring relationship underscores a mutual commitment to advancing standards, innovation, and sustainable development in Kenya’s construction industry

In line with the convention’s emphasis on sustainability and climate resilience, Crown Paints continues to lead the market with low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and environmentally friendly water-based paint solutions. These products significantly reduce harmful emissions, improve indoor air quality, and lessen environmental impact—factors that are increasingly critical in urban housing and infrastructure development.

“Our support to AAK is rooted in our belief that a sustainable future must be built collaboratively. The themes of this convention align perfectly with our own focus on innovation and sustainability. By investing in this platform, we are supporting the vital exchange of knowledge and expertise that is essential for developing urban environments that are not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but are also resilient and environmentally responsible,” said Richard Muturi, Chief Operating Officer of Crown Paints Kenya PLC.

As the demand grows for greener building materials, Crown Paints’ water-based and low-VOC products have become the preferred choice for eco-conscious architects and developers. The company has also invested in research and development to ensure its sustainable product lines meet both international standards and local market needs.

The convention is expected to draw leading experts from across East Africa and will feature keynote addresses, technical papers, and policy roundtables aimed at shaping the future of Kenya’s built environment.
