The Following Counties To Receive Rainfall This Week, Kenya Met Forecasts

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a fresh five-day weather forecast, warning residents in various parts of the country to brace themselves for varying conditions ranging from persistent rainfall and chilly weather to high daytime temperatures.
The advisory, which covers the period from Tuesday, September 30, to Saturday, October 4, outlines expected conditions across all regions of Kenya, painting a mixed picture of sunshine, rain showers, thunderstorms, and cooler nights.
According to the forecast, residents of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Bungoma, Turkana, and Kakamega counties should expect continued rainfall and generally cold conditions throughout the week.
The department cautioned that the rains are likely to persist both during the day and in the evenings, urging the public to take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone and poorly drained urban areas.
For counties within the Central Highlands, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi, the weather will be characterized by sunny mornings followed by isolated afternoon showers.

Cloudy conditions are also expected to dominate during the nights on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while Friday and Saturday evenings could see heavier showers in a few areas. Temperatures in these counties are forecast to range between a chilly 7°C at night and a maximum of 31°C during the day, signaling a sharp contrast between daytime warmth and cool nights.
The Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley counties, among them Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, will experience widespread rains and thunderstorms during both day and night.
The KMD noted that this could lead to localized flooding and disruption of transport services in some areas. In these regions, temperatures are projected to range from a minimum of 8°C at night to a maximum of 32°C during the day.
In the Eastern and South-Eastern lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and the inland parts of Tana River County, weather conditions will remain relatively stable.
The outlook suggests that these counties will experience day-long sunny intervals, interspersed with occasional cloudy spells during the night. The maximum temperatures in this belt are expected to hit 32°C, while the nights will be moderately cool with minimums averaging 11°C.
Along the Coastline, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River County, residents can expect predominantly sunny days with brief cloudy conditions setting in at night. Unlike other regions that are expected to face cooler nights, coastal counties will remain warmer with minimum temperatures averaging 20°C and daytime highs reaching up to 32°C.
In the North-Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the forecast indicates that the week will be dominated by dry and hot conditions. Daytime hours will feature blazing sunshine with intermittent cloud cover, while nights will remain largely clear but relatively cooler.
The hottest temperatures of the week are expected here, with daytime highs soaring to 39°C and minimum temperatures dropping to around 14°C at night.
Meanwhile, the North-Western region, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, is predicted to experience more volatile weather. The department highlighted that residents should prepare for showers and thunderstorms both during the day and at night. This region will experience some of the highest temperature fluctuations in the country, with maximums of up to 37°C during the day and minimums dropping to about 8°C at night.
The Kenya Mey has urged Kenyans to take note of these forecasts for planning their daily activities, particularly in areas expected to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Farmers have been advised to take advantage of the rains for their planting season, while motorists are encouraged to exercise caution on wet and slippery roads.
Health officials have also warned that the combination of chilly weather and prolonged rainfall could trigger an increase in cold-related illnesses such as pneumonia, especially among children and the elderly. Additionally, the risk of waterborne diseases may rise in regions where flooding occurs.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate and timely weather updates, urging the public to stay tuned to official channels for any changes in the forecast.
