A man who was trapped overnight by rising floodwaters in Tana River County was rescued late Wednesday by the Kenya Red Cross, following hours of heavy rainfall that had caused flash floods in several parts of the country.

The incident occurred in the Kolati Tula area, where the victim became stranded after floodwaters rapidly surrounded his home. As the situation worsened, he made several distress calls for help, fearing for his life as the water level continued to rise. According to the Kenya Red Cross, a rescue team was immediately dispatched to the area. The team faced difficult conditions, including strong currents and limited visibility, as they navigated the flooded terrain in the dark. They managed to reach the stranded man at around 11:45 p.m., pulling him to safety after a tense and challenging operation.

The man was later reunited with his family and was reported to be in stable condition, though visibly shaken by the ordeal. The rescue effort has been praised as a reflection of the dedication of emergency responders who continue to work through dangerous conditions to save lives during the ongoing floods. The Kenya Red Cross has warned residents in flood-prone regions to remain cautious as heavy rains persist across the country. The organization has emphasized the dangers of attempting to cross or walk through moving water, urging communities to stay alert and relocate to safer areas when necessary.

Many parts of Kenya, including Tana River, Garissa, and parts of the Coast and Rift Valley regions, have experienced severe flooding over the past few weeks. Roads, homes, and farms have been submerged, and thousands of residents have been displaced as rivers overflow and drainage systems fail to cope with the continuous downpour.

Relief teams from both government agencies and humanitarian organizations are on high alert, providing rescue operations, emergency shelter, and medical support to affected communities. As rains continue, the Kenya Red Cross has reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly to emergencies while calling on the public to prioritize safety and follow guidance from local authorities.
