Britam, Hotpoint, And MIC Global Risks Unveil Innovative, Point of Sale All-Risks Cover on Home Appliances

Britam General Insurance, Hotpoint Appliances, and MIC Global Risks have partnered to provide an All-Risks insurance cover on select appliances purchased at Hotpoint outlets nationwide and online.
This cover, valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, provides customers with automatic insurance protection at no extra cost, activated the moment an eligible appliance is purchased.
Eligible products include refrigerators, freezers, televisions, selected audio equipment, laundry and dishwashers, cookers (excluding table-tops), and room air conditioners.
Customers will be protected against accidental damage, power surges, fire and water damage, transit loss, theft and burglary, and political violence & terrorism. The partnership also includes a repair-or-replace guarantee, ensuring quick restoration or replacement of damaged items. Customers will receive a digital insurance certificate upon checkout, with claims processed through Britam’s digital claims portal.
This collaboration comes at a time when household electronics account for a rapidly rising share of middle-class spending, driven by urbanization, increased mortgage uptake, and the expansion of Kenya’s domestic appliance market. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2025 Economic Outlook, Kenya’s household appliance and consumer electronics market is projected to grow by 11.4% in 2025, propelled by increased disposable incomes and the resurgence of consumer confidence amid easing inflation.
Speaking during the partnership announcement, James Mbithi, Britam General Insurance CEO & Principal Officer, noted that the partnership supports Britam’s 2025 strategy of driving insurance penetration through digital-first, lifestyle-centred solutions.
“Most consumers do not proactively purchase insurance for their household appliances, yet these items are increasingly essential to day-to-day living. By embedding the cover into the purchase journey, we are meeting customers where they are and making protection accessible, seamless, and relevant,” he said.
Hotpoint Appliances CEO, Ravi Kanani, said the partnership underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing customer value beyond providing high-quality appliances. “At Hotpoint, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. This partnership with
Britam & MIC reflect our commitment to delivering not just quality products, but meaningful value and protection long after purchase. By offering automatic insurance cover at no additional cost, we are elevating the customer experience and ensuring they enjoy complete confidence in every appliance they bring home.”
Puneet Chawla, Chief Operations Officer and Principal Officer, MIC Global Risks, said, “This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering innovative insurance solutions that meet the evolving needs of Kenyan households. By working with Britam and Hotpoint, we are making protection accessible and effortless, enabling customers to enjoy peace of mind from the moment they purchase their appliances, from their trusted retailer, Hotpoint.”
With more than 40% of urban households in Kenya now owning at least one major appliance, a figure expected to surpass 55% by 2027 as per the 2025 Consumer Electronics and Household Report by Research ICT Africa, the need for affordable protection mechanisms has never been greater.
This collaboration leverages the strengths of each partner: Hotpoint, one of the region’s most trusted distributors of electronics and home equipment, will provide customer service support and product verification through its nationwide service centres, MIC Global Risks, a leading insurance broker with presence in East Africa, will provide support for seamless delivery of the product offering, while Britam General Insurance, a leading provider of home and household protection, will underwrite the policy and oversee claim approvals and settlements.
