Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has officially announced the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results during a national ceremony held at AIC Chebisaas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The release of KCSE results marks a significant milestone for nearly one million candidates who sat the examination and have been eagerly awaiting the outcome of their performance.

The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted over a period of approximately five weeks, beginning on October 21 and concluding on November 21, 2025. Throughout this period, candidates across the country were assessed in various subjects under strict examination regulations aimed at safeguarding the credibility and integrity of the national assessment.

According to data released by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), a total of 993,000 candidates registered and sat for the examinations. Of these, 492,019 were male candidates, while 501,214 were female, reflecting a near gender parity in candidature. The candidates were examined in 30 subjects, which were administered through a total of 74 examination papers.

To ensure the smooth and secure administration of the examinations nationwide, KNEC deployed 633 distribution centres, commonly referred to as containers, strategically installed across the country. These centres facilitated the daily distribution and collection of examination materials, significantly enhancing security and efficiency in the handling of examination papers.

Performance analysis shows that 270,000 candidates attained a mean grade of C+ and above, making them eligible for direct entry into universities. Girls accounted for approximately 50 per cent of the total candidature, continuing a trend of strong female participation and performance in national examinations.

At the top end of the performance scale, 1,932 candidates attained grade A, representing the highest-performing cohort in the 2025 KCSE examinations. The Ministry of Education noted this as a positive indicator of improved learning outcomes and sustained efforts to strengthen the education system.

On examination integrity, the ministry reported a notable decline in cases of examination irregularities. A total of 418 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice, down from 614 cases recorded in the 2024 KCSE examinations.

Education officials attributed the reduction to enhanced surveillance measures, tighter supervision, and increased awareness among candidates and teachers on the consequences of cheating.

How to Check KCSE Results

Following the official release, candidates can now access their 2025 KCSE results through the KNEC online portal at results.knec.ac.ke.

To check their results, candidates are required to enter their index number as captured during registration with KNEC. The council has advised candidates and schools to rely only on official channels to avoid misinformation.

In line with established tradition, President William Ruto was earlier briefed on the examination results at the Eldoret State Lodge before the public release. The briefing underscores the national importance attached to the KCSE examinations, which play a critical role in shaping learners’ academic and career pathways.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced a major policy shift aimed at resolving longstanding challenges related to the withholding of certificates due to unpaid school fees. Going forward, KCSE certificates will be collected from sub-county education offices rather than from former schools.

The new system is expected to ensure timely access to certificates for all candidates and prevent delays that have previously disadvantaged students transitioning to higher education or the job market.

The release of the 2025 KCSE results now sets the stage for university placements, college admissions, and other post-secondary pathways, as candidates take their next steps in education and beyond.
