KUCCPS Issues New Notice To Students Seeking University Placement

BY Getrude Mathayo · January 23, 2026 12:01 pm

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has called on students seeking placement in universities and colleges to take advantage of the upcoming 1st National Career Conference and Exhibition 2026, an event designed to offer comprehensive career guidance ahead of the opening of the placement process following the conclusion of national examinations.

In a statement, KUCCPS said the three-day conference will be held from January 27 to January 29, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event is expected to bring together students, parents, universities, colleges, training institutions, employers, and other key stakeholders within the education and labour sectors.

According to the placement agency, the forum is aimed at empowering learners to make informed decisions about higher education and career pathways by providing a centralised platform where they can directly interact with universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, professional bodies, and private sector players. KUCCPS noted that many students often struggle with course selection due to limited exposure to available options, a gap the conference seeks to bridge.

KUCCPS disclosed that more than 100 institutions have confirmed participation in the exhibition. These include public and private universities, TVET colleges, professional associations, and private sector partners from diverse industries. Through exhibitions and information desks, participating institutions will showcase their academic programmes, entry requirements, career prospects, and available support services.

Students attending the conference will also benefit from expert-led career guidance sessions, mentorship forums, and interactive discussions facilitated by seasoned professionals and industry leaders. The sessions will focus on emerging labour market trends, employability skills, innovation, and the competencies required to thrive in a rapidly changing job market.

Learners will be guided on aligning their talents, interests, and academic performance with viable career opportunities. In addition, the conference will feature policy dialogues involving government officials, education stakeholders, and industry representatives.

These discussions will focus on aligning training programmes with national development priorities, labour market demands, and the country’s long-term socio-economic goals, including the development of a skilled and competitive workforce.

KUCCPS further revealed that it will operate on-site clinics throughout the conference to assist students and parents with placement-related inquiries. The clinics will provide support on course selection, application procedures, placement timelines, and transitions into higher education institutions.

The agency said this approach reinforces its commitment to positioning itself as a long-term career development partner rather than merely a placement body.

Meanwhile, KUCCPS announced a new partnership with Kenya Utalii College that will, for the first time, allow students seeking careers in hospitality and tourism to access the institution through the KUCCPS placement system. The collaboration is expected to streamline admissions and expand access to one of the country’s leading hospitality training institutions.

Speaking after a meeting with the Kenya Utalii College management on Wednesday, January 20, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome said the institution’s hospitality and tourism courses will be uploaded onto the KUCCPS portal ahead of the 2026 application cycle for universities and TVET institutions.

She noted that the move will significantly widen access to the programmes and enhance enrolment at the college. Wahome added that beyond admissions, the partnership will focus on labour market research, mapping of career pathways, and grassroots mobilisation to ensure students across the country are informed about opportunities in the hospitality and tourism sector.

These developments come at a time when thousands of candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are awaiting the official opening of the KUCCPS placement portal.

Many students are eager to apply for their preferred courses at universities and colleges nationwide, making the upcoming conference a timely opportunity to gain clarity and guidance before making critical academic and career decisions.
