BY Getrude Mathayo · February 24, 2026 02:02 pm

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially announced the opening of applications for students seeking admission into diploma programmes at the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

KUCCPS, in a public notice released on Monday, February 23, confirmed that the application window is now open for the May 2026 intake. In its announcement, KUCCPS encouraged prospective students interested in joining the legal profession through paralegal training to submit their applications via its online portal within the stipulated period.

The placement service emphasized that all applications must be processed through the KUCCPS system, underscoring its central role in coordinating admissions to public tertiary institutions across the country.

Entry Requirements and Application Timeline

According to the notice, candidates applying for the Diploma in Law programme must have attained a minimum mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In addition to the overall mean grade requirement, applicants must have scored at least a C+ (plus) in either English or Kiswahili, reflecting the importance of strong language proficiency in legal studies and practice.

The application window opened on Monday, February 23, and will close on March 9. KUCCPS has advised all interested candidates to ensure that they complete and submit their applications well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical challenges or disqualification due to late submission.

The Diploma in Law programme will be offered at both of KSL’s Nairobi campuses: the Karen Campus and the Town Campus located within Nairobi’s central business district.

Students admitted to the programme will have flexibility in choosing their preferred mode of study. They may opt to attend in-person day classes at either campus or enroll in evening virtual classes, a move that accommodates working professionals and other learners who may not be able to attend daytime sessions.

This blended approach reflects the institution’s efforts to expand access to legal education while maintaining academic standards. The Diploma in Law, commonly referred to as Paralegal Studies, is designed to provide learners with foundational legal knowledge and practical competencies.

The programme equips students with essential skills needed to support advocates, judicial officers, and other legal practitioners in a range of legal and administrative functions.

Graduates of the course typically take up roles in law firms, corporate legal departments, government agencies, courts, and non-governmental organizations. The training focuses on areas such as legal research, drafting of legal documents, client interviewing, case management, and understanding court procedures. For many students, the diploma also serves as a stepping stone toward further legal education and career advancement within the justice system.

The decision by the Kenya School of Law to channel its diploma applications through KUCCPS comes at a significant time in the academic calendar. Hundreds of thousands of students who sat their KCSE examinations in 2025 are currently awaiting the opening of the university placement portal for the 2026 academic cycle.

Earlier in the year, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) became the first institution to open its 2026 applications through KUCCPS, signaling the start of the placement season. University placement applications are expected to be opened by March 2026, according to the education authorities.

Data from the Ministry of Education shows that 993,000 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examinations nationwide. Of these, 270,715 candidates attained a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying them for direct university entry.

Meanwhile, 507,131 candidates scored a mean grade of C (plain) and above, making them eligible for diploma programmes such as the one offered by the Kenya School of Law. Additionally, 634,082 candidates achieved a grade of D+ and above, broadening the pool of learners eligible for various certificate and artisan courses across the country.

With the application window now open, KUCCPS has urged all qualified candidates with an interest in paralegal training to apply promptly through its online portal before the March 9 deadline. The placement body reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and efficient admission process for all prospective students seeking to advance their education in 2026.
