Kenya TEF Alumni Hub Champions Financial Inclusion

The Kenya TEF Alumni Hub recently hosted an inclusive TEF 2026 Information Session in partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind, aimed at expanding access to entrepreneurship opportunities for Visually Impaired entrepreneurs, reinforcing the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s commitment to financial inclusion across Africa.

Led by Kenya Alumni Hub Lead, Maureen Amakabane, the session brought together aspiring entrepreneurs to demystify the application process for the 2026 cohort of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) Entrepreneurship Programme. The engagement focused on equipping the participants with the knowledge and tools required to successfully navigate the TEFConnect platform, refine their business ideas, and position themselves for funding, mentorship, and market access.

The initiative highlights a key principle of the Foundation’s Africapitalism philosophy that economic transformation must be inclusive, ensuring that access to capital, training, and enterprise support reaches communities that are often excluded from mainstream financial systems.

In Kenya, over 1,200 entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme since inception, each receiving up to USD 5,000 in seed capital, alongside business training, mentorship, and access to a continental network of peers and investors. This funding has enabled Kenyan beneficiaries of the programme to launch and scale enterprises across sectors such as agribusiness, manufacturing, services, and the creative economy, contributing to job creation and local economic growth.

Through tailored guidance and practical demonstrations, participants gained insights into preparing competitive applications, strengthening business models, and leveraging TEF’s ecosystem to unlock growth. The session also highlighted the broader importance of entrepreneurship as a pathway to sustainable livelihoods, job creation, and economic participation.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation continues to demonstrate measurable impact across the continent, with TEF-backed entrepreneurs collectively creating over 150,000 jobs and generating significant revenue, illustrating the multiplier effect of empowering small businesses with the right financial and technical support.

With applications for #TEF2026 closing on 1 March 2026, young and innovative entrepreneurs in Kenya are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to access seed capital, mentorship, and a pan-African network designed to accelerate business success.

To apply, go to the website www.tefconnect.com and follow the steps.
