Equity Bank has reinforced its dominance in the banking sector, emerging as Africa’s strongest banking brand and Kenya’s most valuable brand in the latest Brand Finance 2026 rankings. The milestone underscores the impact of the lender’s purpose-driven strategy, digital expansion, and regional growth on customer trust and market recognition.

According to Brand Finance’s assessment of African banking brands, Equity Bank topped the charts with a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 93.9/100 and an elite AAA+ rating, placing the Kenyan lender among the Top 10 strongest banking brands globally. South African banks Capitec and First National Bank follow closely in regional rankings, highlighting East and Southern Africa’s leadership in brand strength across the continent.

On the valuation front, Equity Bank leads the Kenyan brand league with a brand value of USD 554 million (KES 71.6 billion), surpassing some of the country’s largest corporates. Former market leader Safaricom, which ceded the top spot in 2024, is now valued at USD 453 million (KES 58.5 billion), narrowly ahead of KCB Group, M‑Pesa, and Co-operative Bank in a top 10 list dominated by lenders.

Brand Finance evaluates over 5,000 of the world’s leading brands annually, measuring brand strength, financial performance, and stakeholder perceptions. Brand strength, expressed as a BSI score and rating, reflects a brand’s familiarity, reputation, advocacy, and growth potential—key indicators of pricing power and customer loyalty. Brand value represents the economic benefit a brand could generate if licensed in the open market, separate from tangible company assets.

Equity Bank’s dual achievement of global brand strength and domestic brand value leadership positions the lender to continue leveraging network effects across payments, SME lending, and cross-border trade corridors, further consolidating its position as a powerhouse in African finance.
