Kenya Airways to Introduce Wi-Fi on London Route by July

Kenya Airways is set to introduce onboard Wi-Fi on its London route by July this year, in a move aimed at improving the travel experience for long-haul passengers and strengthening the airline’s competitiveness on one of its most important international routes.

The announcement was made by the airline’s Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer during a briefing held as the national carrier outlined its plans to enhance customer experience while rebuilding performance.

The development comes at a time when the airline is intensifying efforts to modernise its long-haul offering, particularly on the Nairobi–London route, which remains one of its most strategic corridors. According to a recent industry notice to travel agents, Kenya Airways will also deploy the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the London–Nairobi route starting July 17, 2026, providing enhanced onboard features and improved passenger comfort.

The planned introduction of onboard Wi-Fi is expected to complement these aircraft upgrades, enabling passengers travelling between Nairobi and London to stay connected throughout the flight — a feature that has increasingly become standard among major global airlines operating long-haul routes.

The announcement comes as the airline seeks to strengthen its premium long-haul offering following renewed demand on international routes. A report published today indicates that Kenya Airways is also planning to boost performance by increasing capacity on the London route from July, signalling the airline’s renewed focus on high-yield international destinations.

Industry observers say the introduction of in-flight connectivity is a significant step for the airline, especially as travellers increasingly expect the ability to work, communicate and stream content while flying. For business travellers, in particular, onboard Wi-Fi is seen as a key factor when choosing airlines on long-haul routes.

The London route has continued to play a central role in the airline’s recovery strategy. In 2025, Kenya Airways expanded its UK operations by launching direct flights to London Gatwick in addition to the long-established Heathrow service, increasing the number of weekly flights between Nairobi and London.

The introduction of Wi-Fi is therefore expected to further strengthen the airline’s position on the busy Nairobi–London corridor, which connects Kenya to one of its most important markets for tourism, trade, education and diaspora travel.

While full details on pricing and rollout phases have not yet been disclosed, the airline indicated that the service will be available on the London route from July this year, with plans to gradually extend onboard connectivity to more long-haul routes in the future.

The move marks another step in Kenya Airways’ broader strategy to modernise its fleet and improve the passenger experience as it seeks to reinforce its status as Africa’s leading network carrier and restore long-term profitability.
