KUCCPS Opens Applications For May 2026 TVET Intake, Deadline And How To Apply

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened applications for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes for the May 2026 intake, giving thousands of secondary school graduates an opportunity to pursue practical and skills-based education in institutions across the country.

In a notice released on Sunday, March 8, KUCCPS invited prospective students from several Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohorts to submit their applications through the placement service’s online platform.

The call targets candidates who sat for their KCSE examinations between 2000 and 2025 and are interested in enrolling in technical and vocational training institutions.

According to KUCCPS, the programmes available for the upcoming intake are offered in a wide range of institutions, including national polytechnics, technical training institutes, institutes of science and technology, and other accredited technical colleges.

These institutions provide training in diverse technical fields designed to equip learners with hands-on skills that can be directly applied in the labour market.

The placement agency emphasized that TVET education is open to students with a wide range of academic grades, encouraging those who may not meet university entry requirements to consider technical training. In its announcement, KUCCPS assured applicants that there are programmes suited for candidates with different academic performances.

“With any KCSE mean grade, you can find a course,” the placement body stated, highlighting the inclusive nature of the TVET pathway.

Applicants interested in the May 2026 intake have been instructed to log into the KUCCPS student portal, where they can browse available courses and select their preferred programmes before submitting their applications.

The placement body also clarified that the exercise is not limited to the most recent KCSE candidates. Instead, it is open to Form Four leavers from previous years who may wish to pursue technical training or upgrade their qualifications.

KUCCPS has set March 18, 2026, as the deadline for submitting applications. Prospective students have been advised to apply early and carefully review the list of available courses and institutions before making their selections to ensure they choose programmes that align with their career interests.

The May 2026 intake is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen technical and vocational education in the country. Authorities have increasingly emphasized the importance of skills-based training as a way of addressing youth unemployment and ensuring graduates are equipped with practical competencies required in various industries.

Efforts to expand and modernize TVET institutions have also gained momentum in recent months. Recently, the Kenyan Cabinet approved China’s participation in the development and upgrading of more than 70 technical training institutions under Phase III of the Kenya–China TVET project.

The initiative aims to equip the institutions with modern training facilities and industry-standard equipment. Under the programme, the institutions will be upgraded across eight priority technical disciplines, a move expected to enhance the quality of training and better align TVET education with labour market demands.

Officials say the modernization will help improve the employability of graduates by ensuring that students are trained using equipment and technologies similar to those used in real workplaces.

The opening of the TVET application window comes shortly after applications were also announced for several programmes at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). The medical training institution recently opened applications for 31 courses, offering opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the health sector.

Meanwhile, many candidates who sat for the 2025 KCSE examination are still awaiting the opening of the university placement application window by KUCCPS, which will determine their admission into degree programmes in public and private universities.

Education stakeholders say the expansion of TVET opportunities is expected to provide an important alternative pathway for students seeking career-oriented training, as the government continues to promote technical skills development as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
