Morocco Declared African Champions After Senegal Stripped of Title

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title after stripping Senegal of their championship victory in a dramatic and controversial decision that has shaken the football world.

The ruling came after an investigation into the events that unfolded during the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco, which ended in chaos. Senegal, who had initially won the match on penalties, were accused of violating competition regulations when their players temporarily walked off the pitch in protest against a refereeing decision. CAF’s disciplinary committee ruled that the action constituted “unsporting behavior” and a “serious breach of tournament conduct,” ultimately leading to the forfeiture of Senegal’s title.

In contrast, Moroccan fans flooded the streets of Rabat and Casablanca in celebration, praising their national team for their consistent performance throughout the tournament. Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, said, “We respect Senegal as a great team, but we are proud that our hard work has finally paid off. The players deserved this moment.”

Analysts say the incident exposes deeper tensions within African football governance, as well as the growing pressure on CAF to enforce discipline while maintaining credibility. Whether Senegal’s appeal succeeds remains to be seen, but the controversy has already become one of the most talked-about moments in African sports history.
