TEF’s 3,200 Opportunities Mark a Bold New Chapter for African Entrepreneurship

Africa stands at a defining moment—one shaped not by aid, but by ambition, innovation, and the power of its people.
Today, that moment comes alive through the unveiling of 3,200 new opportunities for African entrepreneurs under the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), reinforcing a bold vision that has, over the years, transformed lives and reshaped the continent’s economic narrative.
For Kenya, this milestone carries particular significance. Fourteen Kenyan entrepreneurs are among the first cohort announced, a powerful testament to the country’s growing reputation as a hub of innovation, resilience, and enterprise.
From Vision to Movement
The journey began in 2010, when Tony O. Elumelu and his wife made a deliberate commitment: to empower African entrepreneurs and unlock the continent’s true potential.
At the heart of this vision was a simple but transformative belief—that Africa’s greatest resource is not its minerals, but its people.
What started as an ambition to support 10,000 entrepreneurs has since evolved into one of the most impactful entrepreneurship programmes globally. Today, that vision has nearly tripled, proving that opportunity, when intentionally designed, can be scaled across borders.
As Elumelu reflects in his personal message, “Hope is not just a feeling — it is a system we can build.”
The Power of Opportunity
Through the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, the impact has been both measurable and transformative.
- Over $100 million disbursed in seed capital
- More than 24,000 entrepreneurs funded
- 1.5 million jobs created
- $4.2 billion in revenue generated
- 2.1 million Africans lifted out of poverty
These numbers tell a compelling story but beyond them lies a deeper truth: when entrepreneurs are empowered, they become catalysts of change within their communities.
The programme’s success rate is equally striking, with 80% of supported businesses scaling beyond early stages, far exceeding global averages.
Kenya Steps Forward
For Kenya, the selection of 14 entrepreneurs in the 12th cohort unveiled on 22nd March 2026 reflects the power of bold and innovative young entrepreneurs, ready to champion their vision and bring their dreams to reality.
From agribusiness to technology, manufacturing to the creative economy, Kenyan entrepreneurs continue to demonstrate the ingenuity and resilience that define Africa’s future.
Their inclusion underscores a broader narrative: Kenya is not just ready for opportunity, it is shaping it.
As these entrepreneurs step into the programme, they gain access to:
- $5,000 in non-refundable seed capital
- World-class business training
- Mentorship from global experts
- A pan-African network of innovators
For many, this is more than funding—it is a gateway to scale, sustainability, and global relevance.
