KUCCPS Opens 2026 Portal, Releases New Guidelines, Eligibility, Reporting Dates And Deadline

BY Getrude Mathayo · April 8, 2026 12:04 pm

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has released comprehensive new guidelines to steer students through the 2026 placement process, following the official opening of its online application portal.

The announcement by KUCCPS marks the beginning of a crucial period for thousands of students seeking admission into universities, colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

To enhance accessibility and ensure that applicants receive adequate support, KUCCPS has unveiled a nationwide outreach programme. During the application window, the placement body will deploy officers to universities and TVET institutions in all counties.

These officers will offer in-person guidance, helping students navigate the application process, understand course requirements, and make informed choices about their academic futures. KUCCPS has further indicated that detailed schedules and locations for these support visits will be published on its official website.

In addition to the outreach initiative, applicants will also be able to access assistance at Huduma Centres located throughout the country.

These centres will serve as convenient support hubs, providing hands-on help to students who may face challenges with the online application system or require clarification on available programmes and eligibility criteria.

Application Categories and Eligibility

Although the 2026 placement exercise primarily targets candidates who sat for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, KUCCPS has clarified that previous Form Four leavers are also eligible to apply.

This inclusive approach ensures that individuals who may have delayed their applications in previous years still have an opportunity to secure placement.

Importantly, students from the 2025 KCSE cohort can apply for both degree and TVET programmes, depending on their performance and career interests. For those aspiring to pursue degree courses, the minimum entry requirement remains a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above.

On the other hand, TVET programmes continue to offer flexible entry options, accommodating candidates with grades ranging from A to E. This applies to KCSE examinations taken between the years 2000 and 2025, opening doors for a wide range of learners.

Furthermore, candidates who attained a C+ or higher within the same period are eligible to apply for degree programmes offered through the Open University of Kenya, expanding opportunities for flexible and distance learning.

KUCCPS has reassured applicants that the placement process will strictly adhere to merit-based principles, as outlined in the Universities Act of 2012. Placement decisions will take into account students’ academic performance, their programme preferences, and the available capacity within institutions.

Available Training Opportunities

The placement body has highlighted the wide range of opportunities available across institutions this year. A total of 251 public TVET colleges will participate in the placement process, including 33 that are affiliated with universities.

Additionally, Secondary Teacher Training Colleges collectively offer a capacity of 2,480 slots for aspiring educators. Universities, meanwhile, have been allocated a total of 322,396 spaces for degree programmes, all of which have been approved by the Commission for University Education.

Beyond universities, middle-level colleges provide an even larger capacity, with 1,132,531 available slots for diploma, certificate, artisan, and other TVET programmes. This broad availability underscores the government’s continued effort to expand access to higher education and skills training.

Students interested in enrolling at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) will have another opportunity later in the year. KUCCPS has announced that applications for KMTC programmes will reopen in September 2026, following the conclusion of the March placement cycle.

The KMTC application window will also accommodate 2025 Form Four leavers, as well as candidates who may have retaken specific subjects in order to meet the college’s entry requirements.

This provision ensures that students who have worked to improve their qualifications are not left behind.

Reporting Dates and Deadlines

Successful applicants to degree programmes are expected to report to their respective universities in September 2026. In contrast, students placed in TVET institutions will begin reporting as early as May, since TVET admissions operate on a continuous intake basis.

KUCCPS has emphasized the importance of adhering to application timelines, noting that the current application window will close on May 6. Students are strongly encouraged to carefully review programme options, confirm eligibility requirements, and submit their applications well before the deadline to avoid last-minute challenges.

Overall, the 2026 placement exercise presents a wide array of opportunities for students across different academic levels, with KUCCPS aiming to make the process more accessible, transparent, and supportive than ever before.
