NTSA Gives New Directives On Driving License And New Number Plates

On Friday 29^th, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced that it has adjusted its operating hours in upscaled efforts to clear the licenses and new generation number plates.

According to the statement released by the Authority’s Director General (DG), the changes will take effect from this weekend. The authority will now be operating for longer hours from Monday to Friday

“As part of our service improvement strategies, the Authority has adjusted its operating hours. In this regard, all NTSA Banking Halls and Offices will operate, Monday to Friday, from 7.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.,” read the statement.

“Additionally, NTSA offices will remain open to the public on Saturday, 30^th September 2023, and Saturday, 7^th October 2023 from 8.00 a.m. – to 4.00 p.m. to enable number plate collection.”

NTSA said the directive is part of its efforts to improve service delivery to Kenyans. The DG called on Kenyans who have received collection alerts to visit the centers they indicated as collection points.

The shift from the normal operation hours is to give ample time to vehicle owners to pick up their number plates and driving licenses. The authority will also be able to process the documents faster, according to the Transport Ministry.

“We humbly request motor vehicle owners who have received SMS notifications on a collection of reflective number plates to visit the centers they identified during the application process,” the authority noted.

Last week, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made an impromptu visit to the NTSA offices where he conducted an assessment of their operations. He directed NTSA to clear the backlog of driving licenses and digital number plates with specific timelines.

The CS indicated that several motorists were still waiting for the number plates yet they had already been processed. He said the backlog of driving licenses, logbooks, and digital number plates should be cleared within the said period.

“I will hold the senior management of NTSA personally responsible and accountable for any further delays and poor service delivery experienced from now henceforth,” Murkomen added.
