Majid Al Futtaim to Open the First Carrefour Market in Kenya

Majid Al Futtaim has signed a deal with the management of Village Market that will see the opening of the first Carrefour Market in Kenya, by the end of the year.

The Carrefour Market will stock small electrical appliances, which is different from a Carrefour Market store that operates in a different format. Compared to a hypermarket, a Carrefour Market store has a larger focus on stocking a wide range of food items over non-food items.

“Carrefour Market is an innovative approach that allows us to serve our customers by offering them a store that caters to their everyday shopping needs. This attests to our commitment to addressing customers’ needs effectively while growing and expanding our presence in Kenya,” Franck Moreau, Country Manager, at Majid Al Futtaim – Retail Kenya said.

He also noted that they will be embarking on the construction work in May where the Carrefour Market will be located, which will be followed by the installation of equipment and the relevant fit out to suit Carrefour’s international standards.

Majid Al Futtaim opened its first Carrefour Market in 2009, and the different format store has since grown to become a popular sub-brand that specialises in offering fresh produce and local products, an appropriate assortment of non-food products, attractive prices in every aisle, and regular promotions.

In 2016, Carrefour launched operations in Kenya and is currently operating five stores located at located at The Hub in Karen, Two Rivers Mall, Thika Road Mall, The Junction and Sarit Centre.

Once opened, the Village Market store will be enterprise’s sixth store in the country, and a significant milestone in the retailer’s growth and expansion plans.
