Meet Rosalind Waweru: The Story of Turning Impossibilities to Possibilities by Rafiki

There is an ever-increasing need to invest in agriculture due to a drastic rise in global population and changing dietary preferences of the growing middle class in emerging markets towards higher value agricultural products.
The development of agriculture requires financial services that can support more agriculture investments and agriculture-related infrastructure that require long-term funding.
In Kenya, a good number of people have ventured into agribusiness and after investing their resources seriously in the field, the feedback ends up in reaping out huge profits. Having a supportive financial partner is the main key to a successful agribusiness.
Meet Rosalind Waweru who used to work as a school administrator. Despite having been employed, she felt it was time to quit employment and venturing into something new that she had more passion for.
She did the unexpected. She resigned from her job to be able to bring her skills and knowledge to agribusiness which has since then overwhelmingly grown in terms of size and profit.
From what Rosalind has been doing and the effort being seen from her farming work, the best term to be used in defining her is ‘mistress of all trades’.

After quitting her administrative job, Rosalind turned into a full-time farmer. She began her agribusiness journey with tea farming on a 12 acres’ piece of land in Limuru. After a few years into tea farming, she thought of venturing into dairy farming too.
With all the hard work that she was putting in her work, she saw it best to concentrate on an area in dairy farming that not so many people are in, dealing with “she” cows only.
With the help of Rafiki Microfinance Bank, Rosalind was able to expand her dairy project and increase the quantity of milk that was being produced from 25-litres a day to about 300- liters a day. This is because all she needed was a supportive financial partner who could hold her hand whenever she needed financial help.
Having stabilized herself in the field of agribusiness through the two areas of tea farming and dairy farming, Rosalind wanted to do even more. Nothing could hold her back, especially by the fact that she was sure of having financial support.
She again decided to expand her business even more, and this time around, she ventures into pig rearing. Here, she would sell both grown pigs and piglets, depending on her clients’ requests. This in itself presented a new opportunity to start manufacturing pig feeds.
Having established herself, she receives a lot of support from local supermarkets in Limuru as far as the market is concerned for her agribusiness produce.
Also, with the help of Rafiki Microfinance Bank, Rosalind was able to dig a borehole that supplies water throughout her farm.
“With a constant water supply and enough manure from my dairy, I believe that this is just the start of a well-recognized brand in the agricultural industry,” Rosalind concludes.
If you have the same passion as Rosalind, then Rafiki Microfinance Bank is what you need on your side.
