Hello 2020, What Do You Have For Us?

BY Juma · January 1, 2020 06:01 am

Happy New Year! It is 2020. At last, we have crossed into a new decade on tens. 2019 is now gone, gone forever and it will only be remembered by us and future generations.

Hello 2020! You are welcome. What do you have for us? Your sister 2019 was not easy on us. Are you going to follow in her footsteps? Are you going to be easy on us?

Since you are still new, dear 2020, let me tell you something about your sister 2019. She wasn’t good for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya. She killed over 400,000 of them.

Your sister, 2019 did not have any regard for the suffering majority in Kenya. She made sure that companies closed down and people were fired en masse. Can you believe that in three months of her watch 5,000 people were fired?

Your sister was not bad for everyone dear 2020. She was good to some. In fact, she had a soft spot for our ruling class; both political and civil service. She gave them an enticing environment to loot public resources.

Most Kenyans will remember her as the year of brokenness, little to know cash into people’s pockets and literally no food on the tables of many. She made sure that cashflow was at its lowest in 6 years.

So, 2020, what do you have for us? What do you have for the SME? What do you have for the poor majority in this country? What do you have for the Kenyan farmer? Are you going to have it rain on time?

This is what we ask of you 2020. Go easy on us. Be fair with our jobs. We don’t want to lose them because our whole generation depends on it. Be fair on our bosses so that business flourish and they find no reason of letting us go. Be good to our parents and let them live to see us prosper.
