11 Women Rescued By The DCI From Being Trafficked To The Middle East

11 women of Kenyan nationalities were rescued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers as they were about to be ferried to the Middle East.

The office of the DCI confirmed that the 11 women were locked up in a single room in East Leigh, Nairobi County as plans were underway for them to be taken to the Middle East to get unspecified jobs.

Announcing the statement via twitter, the DCI said that the 11 women were of ages between 23-30 years and were locked up in one room in Ushirika estate in Eastleigh.

Officers at the Pangani DCI said they were tipped by the members of the public about the human trafficking activities by two foreign suspects who were identified as Thabit Hanni Yaseen Radman and Faren Yassin Radman.

The DCI officers then conducted a raid on Sunday, February 23, 2020, which resulted in the arrest of the two suspects said to be living in a house adjacent to where the ladies were locked up.

“Upon interrogation, it was established that the foreigners were allegedly recruiting the young women for unspecified jobs in the Middle East,” said the DCI in a statement.

The two suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday, February 24, 2020.

Kenya still lagging in the fight against human trafficking

The report shows how foreigners and conmen are taking advantage of vulnerable Kenyans by promising them lucrative jobs in the Middle East.

For a while now, unemployed Kenyans, especially the youth have lived by the notion that countries in the Middle East offer good jobs than Kenya thus they would grab any opportunity that comes their way provided they land a job in the Middle East.

Getting a job in the Middle East is not a problem not until they land into the hands of abusive employees. Some employees in the Middle East subject Kenyans into forced labor or use them for sexual pleasures.

A report by the US state department in 2018 revealed that Kenyans are exploited in the foreign countries where they are employed as house-helps masseurs and even in brothels.

The US department report further listed Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman as Middle East countries where Kenyans prefer going to but are subjected to human exploitation.

The report points out that Kenya still has a long way to go when it comes to eliminating human trafficking activities.
