29 New COVID-19 Cases In Eastleigh As 45 More Test Positive In Kenya

Kenya has today registered a worrying rise of COVID-19 confirmed cases with 45 new cases raising the number to 535 according to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The 45 new cases that have tested positive are 29 in Nairobi, 11 cases in Mombasa, five cases in Wajir county, and one foreign national.

The five COVID-19 cases that have tested positive in the last 24 hours in Wajir county all have a history of travel in Somalia’s Mogadishu while the one foreigner is a Somalia citizen.

The 29 people that have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nairobi are from Eastleigh and worryingly have raised the number of positive cases in the area to 63 making it the leading estate in Kenya with COVID-19 closely followed by Old Town in Mombasa where 36 have previously tested positive.

“We are inviting death upon our loved ones and ourselves in our ignorance of the set-out measures by the Ministry of Health,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

“The government will be announcing more stringent measures this week following the rise of COVID-19 cases in Kenya as the spread is increasing and there is a clear need to ensure containment of the virus,” the Health CS has said.

“On a positive note, Kenya has recorded 9 more recoveries raising the number to 182,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The 45 that have tested positive for COVID-19 include 30 males and 15 females out of 1077 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The surge in Eastleigh numbers is following the residents turning up in large numbers for targeted mass testing, MoH acting director-general Patrick Amoth said.
