Dexamethasone: UK’s COVID-19 Magical Cure That Could Save Africa

The rush to find a cure for COVID-19 has been made more urgent by the disease’ ability to kill in less than a week and this has had experts in United Kingdom (UK) arrive at Dexamethasone.

Dexamethasone is a steriod and is being used in the UK in low dosages with the UK Experts saying they have indeed arrived at a breakthrough on treatment to fight COVID-19.

Dexamethasone according to UK Experts, has cut the risk of a COVID-19 patient dying by third especially for the patients on ventilators while the risk of dying for patients on oxygen has been cut by a fifth

UK Experts say if dexamethasone had been used in the treatment of COVID-19, then more than 5,000 patients would have recovered and would be alive which would have cut the fatality numbers by a huge margin.

According to UK Experts, dexamethasone will be a lifesaver for poor countries such as those in Africa that are struggling to fight COVID-19 with Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, noting that British had taken steps to ensure enough supply to save lives of COVID-19 patients.

“It is a remarkable British Scientific achievement,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson  said upon the establishment that indeed dexamethasone was effective in the fight against COVID-19

The majority of COVID-19 patients are recovering without having to be admitted to hospitals while those that get critical are admitted and placed on ventilation or oxygen and it is those patients that are succumbing to the virus mainly and whose lives are saved by dexamethasone.

COVID-19 patients are also reported to be at high risks of blood clotting which places the lives of the patients without any underlying conditions at risk of fatality in the scenario of a blood clot.

Dexamethasone treatment takes 10 days in a COVID-19 patient and has been found to cut the risk of dying from 40 percent to 28 percent for patients on ventilators and form 25 percent to 20 percent for patients on oxygen, giving them a better fighting chance.

UK Experts have however warned that people should not buy dexamethasone and self medicate as a patient has to be reviewed before they can be placed under the treatment.
