Mike Sonko And Ferdinand Waititu Permanently Barred From Public Office

After Kenyans expressed their shock on how the former Governor for Kiambu Ferdinand Waititu was cleared to run for Nairobi gubernatorial position, EACC has come out, guns blazing.

Ferdinand Waititu was impeached as Governor for Kiambu County over corruption and abuse of office. He was found to have looted millions of shillings.

Governor Mike Sonko, on the other hand, was impeached as Governor for Nairobi County over allegations of corruption and abuse of office. He is planning to run for Machakos County.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) now says the duo are permanently banned from holding public office. The Commission says it will be holding a vetting for each candidate “soon”.

The Commission insists that Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya should be adhered to and that its mandate is to ensure that it is followed.

Chapter Six talks about leadership and integrity and spells out the type of leaders Kenyans should elect. EACC has the mandate to ensure that those cleared to run meet the threshold as provided.

The Commission, however, says that Chapter One of the Constitution of Kenya gives Kenyans powers to delegate their powers to people they know are of integrity (we know this can’t happen.).

The truth is, EACC issuing a statement on what Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya says is one thing, and implementing it is another thing.

As Professor PLO Lumumba says, we are always electing hyenas into big offices, put them in charge of sheep, and when the sheep start to disappear we loudly wonder why.

The economy has collapsed because of the caliber of leaders we elect. We elect people who have no business with our country.
