KRA To Strengthen Stakeholder Relations

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner-General Githii Mburu has reiterated the Authority’s commitment to strengthen stakeholder ties to build strategic partnerships that will enhance tax compliance and support revenue collection.

Speaking during the KRA Golf Open at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, Mr. Mburu noted that their interactions with stakeholders in the month of October have yielded impactful sessions.

The golf event marked the climax of the KRA Taxpayer Month celebrations, commemorated annually in the month of October.

Speaking during the event that was also attended by the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury & Planning Hon. Amb. Ukur Yatani, Cabinet Secretary for East African Community & Regional Development Adan Mohammed and East Africa Breweries Limited’s (EABL) Managing Director Mrs. Jane Karuku, the Commissioner-General said:

“As you are all aware, KRA has kept aside the month of October to recognize taxpayers through the Annual Taxpayers’ Month. This particular event is meant to cement that engagement with our stakeholders by interacting as we get to understand one another,”

“We are transforming KRA from an Authority to a service whereby we would like to have a common understanding on how we pay taxes and how tax policies are implemented,”

Mr. Mburu noted that in the last month, KRA, working jointly with other stakeholders like schools have planted more than 24,000 trees in the country as part of its CSR activities.

The Commissioner-General added that KRA is keen to utilize modern technologies to improve operations and service delivery, as per the KRA 8th Corporate Plan.

Commenting on the event and its significance, CS Yattani commended KRA’s move to engage stakeholders, noting that the gesture should be continuous.

“KRA is today demonstrating that it is not only collecting money from citizens but also making it possible for them to interact with Kenyans in a manner that actually helps people to understand what they do and how they can make tax collection better.”

The CS commended KRA for the good work so far and assured the Authority of the National Treasury’s commitment to supporting tax collection.

On his part, CS Mohammed commented on the ease of doing business in the region noting that a lot of development has been made in enabling the business environment in Kenya and beyond.

He said: “There are days when applying for KRA PIN was not an easy job but with the efforts made through the Ministry and KRA, one can now do all those things from the comfort of their homes. This is one of the many things that KRA has been doing to enhance the ease of doing business.”

The KRA Golf Open at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club attracted over 200, golfers with nine of them being local pros.
