Effects of Road Accidents on the Economy

The festive season is here again. This is the season that many urban dwellers travel to the rural areas to celebrate with their families.

During this festive season, many road users are going to lose their lives due to road accidents.

Drivers are often prone to neglect the lives of those they are carrying during this season. Most drivers, during this season often abandon the natural way of thinking and entirely rely on marijuana for making decisions.

Road accidents have dire consequences on the economy of a country. Whenever accidents occur, the country loses part of its labor force and almost every economic sector is affected.

Many bread winners have lost their lives and left those who rely on them for livelihood with nowhere to turn to.  Accidents often come unannounced. People, therefore, die without even their families knowing how much they were worth off, their bank details and even the properties they owned without their families’ knowledge.

The health sector is also often directly affected as a result of road accidents. During this festive season, most medical facilities are often overstretched by large numbers of casualties. Many medical institutions around the country are ill equipped to handle emergency cases and this has led to many people losing their lives.

The labor force of the country is often affected too. Many skilled people have perished as a result of road accidents leaving gabs at the places of work that sometimes are hard to replace because of the nature of skills needed.

The education sector is often affected both directly and indirectly. With the departure of a breadwinner, those who depended on him or her for school fees opt out of schools. The education sector has also lost some of the best brains through road accidents.

Road accidents affects almost every sector, be it social, political or economic. Drivers must be careful. Do not drive when drunk. Do not over speed to meet your targets.
