Intel Helping Unlock the Potential of the African Woman

Women and girls in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa have been provided with a chance to learn about the internet by the technology giant, Intel Corporation.

Intel is committed to ensuring that women and girls in Kenya and other African Countries get to interact freely through the internet and be more enlightened on matters of technology. These women and girls will be sought out countrywide and be educated through this platform.

In order to achieve their target, Intel has allocated agents to different parts of the country, who will look out for women and girls with little internet knowledge, then get them registered for the services. One can also dial *861# to get connected to the same services.

Most African women have been left behind on matters of technology and this is why Intel has decided to try and change the situation. The Internet is the current tool that is key to information, thus, women need to access this information so as to improve their mindsets and their way of doing things.

Intel Corporation vice president, Ms. Rosalind Hudnell who was speaking during the launch of the program in Kenya said that Kenyan women and girls need to benefit from wealth of information from the internet so that they can be in a better position to access available opportunities.

Research done by the organization showed revealed that 25 per cent fewer women are always online than men in most developing countries. This program dubbed “My Digital Journey,” is just part of a wider initiative by Intel in the Sub-Saharan Africa, in collaboration with The UN Women and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Over 90,000 women and girls have already been connected across the region and the number is expected to grow is more. The move anticipates to fill up the wide gap that exists on the lower number of women accessing the internet around the world, through digital literacy training. By achieving this, the potential of women will be unlocked and they can be in a position to help in the growth of the global economy.
