Banks Top Losers at the NSE on Thursday

Kenyan commercial banks had a bad day on Thursday at the NSE. In what was seen as the immediate effects of the newly signed interest rates Bill into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the top losers category at the NSE was dominated by banks.

Diamond Trust Bank was leading the pack with a loss of 11.95 percent at the price of 140.00 shillings per share, CFC Stanbic Holdings followed with a loss of 10.00 percent at the price of 72.00 shillings per share, Kenya Commercial Bank came in with a loss of 9.92 percent at the price of 29.50 shillings per share, Cooperative Bank of Kenya lost 9.81 percent at the price of 11.95 shillings per share while I&M Holdings closed the losing banks category at the NSE with a loss of 9.81 percent at the price of 96.50 shillings per share. E.A Portland Cement was the only non-banking company among the top losers with a loss of 9.92 percent at the price of 27.25 shillings per share.

As the banks continued to lose, there were some good news for other companies too. E.A Cables was the top gainer of the day with 8.18 percent at the price of 8.60 shillings per share. It was followed by Kapchorua Tea Company with a gain of 6.25 percent at the price of 85.00 shillings per share while Nairobi Securities Exchange gained 5.39 percent at the price of 17.60 shillings per share.
