Market Prices for Dry Maize Reduce as Harvest Season Nears

Maize prices have remained steady and affordable in Eldoret for the past eight months as compared to the average market prices of the commodity in other towns across the country.

90kg bag of dry maize has ranging between 2,500 and 2,600 shillings in Eldoret. One of the reasons that have contributed to this is the fact that the town is located the region known to be among the highest in maize production in the country.

Since January, the market prices for maize have not been consisted as in some town, they increased up to 3,500 shillings. This being a season of harvest in high production regions, the prices will be abit reasonable especially to consumers.

Maize is the staple food in Kenya and it is the back born of the country. Some of the areas known to practice maize farming include Trans-Nzoia County, Uasin Gishu County, Bungoma County and parts of Rift Valley like Nakuru and Molo.
