Kenya Is World’s ‘Least Toxic’ Country

Kenya has been named the world’s least toxic country, topping a list that takes account of air pollution, energy consumption and renewable energy production.

Data obtained from the International Energy Agency and World Health Organization (WHO) was used by renewable energy firm The Eco Experts in order to rank the most toxic countries in the world. Read:

ICJ To Hear Somalia-Kenya Border Row

The United Nations’ highest court ruled on Thursday it has the authority to adjudicate in a maritime boundary dispute between Kenya and Somalia over stretches of the Indian Ocean potentially rich in oil and gas.

Kenya had argued that the International Court of Justice, which rules in disputes between countries, does not have jurisdiction over the case, brought by Somalia in 2014.

“The court finds that Kenya’s preliminary objection to the jurisdiction of the case must be rejected,” ICJ president Ronny Abraham said. “In the light of the foregoing, the court finds that (Kenya’s) preliminary objection to the admissibility of Somalia’s application must therefore be rejected,” Abraham told a hearing at the ICJ’s headquarters at the scenic Peace Palace in The Hague. Read

Ethiopian PM Urges Trump to Keep Africa Trade Deal

The prime minister said in a rare interview that President Donald Trump’s “America first” message is following the lead of key Ethiopian ally China in looking to stimulate domestic job growth.

“China has become a model not only for Ethiopia but now even for the new administration of the United States,” Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, in an interview in which he urged President Trump to maintain a key trade deal and bolster cooperation against terrorism. “They are focused on bringing back jobs and manufacturing to the U.S., which obviously means the Chinese drive to have manufacturing at home has become a model even to the U.S.”

“I hope AGOA provisions will continue for the coming 10 years,” Mr. Desalegn said, adding that Mr. Trump’s “America first” message followed Beijing’s model. Read
