Groundnuts Prices Highest Compared to Other Commodities in the Market

A 110-kilogram bag of groundnuts is retailing at an average market price of 13,900 shillings across the country. This comes as the highest market price stood at 16,500 shillings in Mombasa while the lowest market price was 12,000 shillings in Kisumu.

A 90-kilogram bag of green grams on the other hand was being sold at an average market price of 10,158 shillings and the prices in different towns were as follows: 13,500 shillings in Eldoret, 12,600 shillings in Kitale, 10,000 shillings in Kisumu, 8,700 shillings in Nairobi, 8,500 shillings in Nakuru and 7,650 shillings in Mombasa.

A 90-kilogram bag of finger millet had an average market price of 7,117 shilling given that the difference between the highest and the lowest market price was 1,700 shillings.

Dry maize still holds the previous average market price of 3,386 shillings for a 90-kilogram bag with varying prices in different towns as follows: 4,400 shillings in Kisumu, 3,800 shillings in Mombasa and Nairobi respectively, 3,300 shillings in Kitale and 3,200 shillings in Eldoret and Nakuru.

Different types of beans are also in the market though the market prices have gone up in the last 5 months due to the ongoing drought across the country. A 90-kilogram bag of Rosecoco beans was retailing as follows: 10,000 shillings in Kisumu, 8,100 shillings in Eldoret, 7,500 shillings in Mombasa, 7,000 shillings in Nairobi, 6,000 shillings in Kitale and 5,400 shillings in Nakuru.
