Kenya Railways (KR) will introduce an afternoon trip on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service from November 1.

The train will depart from both the Mombasa and Nairobi Termini at 3:30 pm.

The new development will also see KR revise the current train schedule, with the morning inter-county train departing Mombasa and Nairobi stations at 8 am and making a stopover at each of the seven intermediate stations along the Mombasa-Nairobi stretch of the Standard Gauge Railway project.

The afternoon train will be an Express train with no stoppage at any of the intermediate stations.

“We will have the train stopping at Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Emali stations during the morning trip. We have been successfully operating at the Voi and Mtito Andei stations,” said Kenya Railways Managing Director Atanas Maina.

“The new development is aimed at providing the type of service the public has demanded since the passenger train was launched. To date, the service has transported approximately 330,000 passengers and the numbers are growing by the day,” He added.
