Telkom Kenya Steps into Home Segment With 4G Data Bundles

Telkom Kenya stepped into the Home Segment by introducing home data bundles, for home users with 4G.
“Our aim is to provide the highest quality network with the most competitive data bundles to power a moving Kenyan,” said Aldo Mareuse, the CEO.
In June, it had expanded its 4G network up from 9 towns to 28 towns.
In Kenya, home broadband bundles offerings have increased household’s appetite as it continues to grow.
The Communications Authority latest data shows the number of internet broadband subscriptions increased by 42.6 percent to 15.4 mn from 10.8 mn recorded in Q4’2016. On a quarterly basis, the internet broadband subscriptions grew by 12.4 percent from 13.7 mn recorded previous quarter.
This is attributed to the affordability of smartphones in the country as well as affordable internet bundles offered by various internet service operators.
Through its enterprise division, it is focusing on providing connectivity services to businesses, and residential areas.
Mr. Kris Senanu, Managing Director, Enterprise Division at Telkom said to get small and medium businesses using ICT services more extensively, there are four hurdles we have to overcome: complexity, affordability, connectivity and a compelling reason.
“Telkom Kenya is among the companies that have made an investment in connectivity infrastructure a key focus. Some of its investments include a 23 percent stake in 5000KMs TEAMs (through Fujairah in the UAE), a 10 percent stake in 2,700-kilometre LION2, (through Mayotte in Mauritius), an 8 percent stake in the East Africa Submarine System and management of the government’s National Optic Fibre Backbone sets offering solutions distinctive on speed, accessibility, and reliability,” he noted.
Telkom Kenya offers home plans for customers who fall within the telco’s ever-increasing LTE-covered zones.
“When you wake up in the morning and check your emails in bed, to streaming music whilst getting ready, answering some calls on the way to work, whilst at the office, video conferencing in HD, and finally wrapping up after a busy day. ‘On the Move 24/7’,” says Mareuse.
Telkom Kenya Home plans have the following features:
Once the data bundle allocation is exhausted, browsing will be charged at out of bundle rate – Ksh 2/MB
Unused data bundles do not roll over to the next month
If the customer buys another bundle before expiry of an existing bundle, the bundles will accumulate
Customers of home data will enjoy other services:
• Making calls on net and off net – Ksh 4/- per minute
• Sending SMS on the net and off-net – Ksh 1/- per SMS any network.
The weekly plan has two options that cost KES 499 and KES 999 for 3GB and 10 GB respectively.
Second is the 30-day plan that has 5 options:
5GB for KES 999
10 GB for KES 1499
20 GB for KES 1999
35 GB for KES 2999
Unlimited gigs for KES 3999 (of course with fair usage policy. Upon burning through 50GB, speeds will be capped at 1mbps)
Lastly, the 90-day plan calls for KES 5999 fee accompanied by 100 gigs.
