30 Women Benefit from East Africa Women in Business Platform Drive

30 women have benefited from the East Africa Women in Business Platform (EAWIBP) initiative that sought to link women in business to corporates.

The buyers had five minutes to pitch their businesses to potential buyers.

The 30 were selected from a rigorous process that entailed them being members of women professional associations among others.

According to the Chairperson, East Africa Women in Business Platform Dorothy Tuma, the women that landed contracts with some of the corporate organizations now have to grow and nurture these relationships.

“This is the first ever such initiative in the region and we are looking to doing more annual forums in each of the East Africa nations so as to link as many women as possible to potential buyers and businesses,” she added.

On her part, Lisa Karanja, Senior Director, Business Competitiveness, TradeMark East Africa noted: “On behalf of TradeMark East Africa, we see this as a pivotal platform by which women can take advantage off to showcase what their businesses have to offer in the East Africa platform. Moving on, we will be pumping in more money to facilitate such initiatives in the country. Women play a critical role in bolstering businesses in the region.”

Some of the buyers that participated in this exercise included – Benchmark Solutions, Art Cafe, Java, Gulf bank, InterContinental Hotel, Serena Hotel, Tuskys among others.

The East African Women in Business Platform brings together individuals and organizations from across the East African Community who support issues affecting professional women and women in business.
