Technology is affecting how parents are bringing up their younglings, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations taking the center stage.

In Kenya, the level of single motherhood promises to be on the rise especially among urban dwellers. An estimated 320 million children worldwide are under the care of a single mom. Further, a study done in Africa has established that two out of three mothers are likely to be single by the age of forty-five.

Most cases of single-parent households have been because of death, separation or annulment. However, nowadays partners are more likely not to commit to raising their children further complicating the situation.

Single mothers are likely to have mental health issues, financial hardships, live in low-income areas, and receive low levels of social support while struggling to feed their young ones. All of these factors taken into consideration when evaluating the mental health of single mothers.

These single moms have to serve as the breadwinners and therefore find themselves under an ever-busy schedule. Most of them end up entrusting their children to strangers in the form of nannies or daycare centres.

Now parenting could get stress free with LG’s eye-catching Hub Robot that takes the concept of the smart home to the next level. By connecting to other smart appliances in the home, the Hub Robot uses voice recognition technology to complete household tasks such as turning on the air conditioner or changing a dryer cycle with simple verbal commands.

“At times previous experience with hired nannies may prompt single parents to seek help from their own parents to take care of their kids. When we conceptualized the Hub Robot, we had a mom assistant idea in it. They need to have free time to relax despite the various hurdles they go through in the single motherhood,” says Moses Marji, the Marketing General Manager.

The Hub Robot is equipped with an interactive display that can display a wide variety of information such as images of contents inside of the refrigerator and recipes complete with audio instructions.

With its friendly, anthropomorphic design, LG’s Hub Robot can interact with the entire family in a variety of different ways. It can move and swivel in place, as well as express a wide range of emotions by displaying a face on its display. Furthermore, the Hub Robot is able to distinguish different family members’ faces with its camera.

Single moms no longer have to worry about abusive and neglecting nannies as the AI efficiently performs house duties.
