Plenty of Cabbages in the Market Result in Declined Prices

Due to the flooding of cabbages in the markets, the prices have slightly declined and as a result, households are enjoying the vegetable at very affordable prices.

A market survey has shown that a 126-kilogram bag of cabbages is retailing at 4,000 shillings in Mombasa, 3,780 shillings in Busia, 2,400 shillings in Eldoret, 1,800 shillings in Kitale, 1,650 shillings in Nairobi and 1,200 shillings in Nakuru and Isiolo respectively.

A 22-kilogram bag of Ripe Bananas, on the other hand, is being sold as follows in selected towns across the country: 1,200 shillings in Eldoret, 950 shillings in Busia, 800 shillings in Isiolo, 650 shillings in Kitale, 610 shillings in Mombasa, 550 shillings in Nairobi, 350 shillings in Nakuru and 250 shillings in Kisii.

The table below gives a summary of different other commodities in selected towns across the country:

Tomatoes are retailing highest in Kisii where they are at a market price of 5,500 shillings and lowest in Isiolo at 1,700 shillings for a 64-kilogram bag.

A 142-kilogram bag of Spring Onions is retailing at 5,000 shillings in Kisii, 3,800 shillings in Mombasa, 3,500 shillings in Busia, 3,000 shillings in Nakuru and Kitale respectively, 2,800 shillings in Isiolo, 2,600 shillings in Nairobi and 1,500 shillings in Eldoret.
